Campbell ‘honest’ on potential Ryan Kent release clause after Rangers talks confirmed

Kevin Campbell has claimed “it would be great” for Rangers if Ryan Kent put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said fresh terms would “protect” the club’s investment in the 25-year-old.

Kent has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox.

As quoted by Football Scotland (29 July), Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed the winger is in talks with the club over a new deal.

The ex-Liverpool attacker has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League in recent transfer windows.

When asked by Football Insider if Kent’s representatives would likely want a release clause included in a new deal, Campbell said: “I don’t think Kent needs a buyout clause in his contract, if I’m honest.

“If a Premier League club comes in for him, they will put the money down. Rangers would, of course, have to accept a bid but I doubt they would ask for an astronomical amount.

“Kent has been coveted by a few Premier League teams and understandably so. He has been brilliant for Rangers over the past few seasons.

“If they could tie him down to a new deal it would be great. It would protect the club.

“They want to regain the title. Kent will be vital for them if they are to do it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.”
