Campbell: 'I know Appleton well' and this is why West Brom should appoint him
Kevin Campbell has backed his friend Michael Appleton to land the West Brom job.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Albion and Arsenal striker said the 45-year-old would be a “great appointment” because “he knows the club and the area inside out and is above all else a football man”.
The Baggies have been on the hunt for a new manager for three weeks now after Sam Allardyce announced he would step down at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Football Insider revealed on 5 June that contact has been made with Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton to assess whether he is interested in taking over at the Hawthorns.
He is believed to be keen to return to the club where he spent 10 years as a player and a coach and is the new frontrunner for the job.
The Midlands club also made contact with Roy Hodgson (8 June) but he has knocked back the approach as he wants a break from management following his departure from Palace.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Appleton would be a smart appointment, Campbell said: “I know Appy well.
“He was there when I was at the club. He knows the club and the area inside out and above all else he is a football man.
“Appy is a really interesting character. He has coached there before so he knows the set up.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with him because he would be a safe pair of hands. He knows the football club, he understands what is expected. It would help.
“Lincoln City did well last season as well so it could be a great appointment.”
