Campbell in awe of 'brilliant' Arsenal signing after Arteta transfer admission
Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on the new Arsenal recruits who started the weekend’s win over Norwich City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker was particularly impressed with the “brilliant” performance of debutant Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Arsenal spent close to £150million on six signings in the summer window – more than any other Premier League club.
Of those new arrivals, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Albert Lokonga started Saturday’s 1-0 win over Norwich.
As quoted by Football.London (9th September), Mikel Arteta outlined the difficulty of building “a medium to long-term project with immediate results” when quizzed on the club’s transfer activity and poor start to the season.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the new faces’ performances against Norwich, Campbell said:

“Starting with the back five, Ramsdale got his first Premier League start and impressed.
“Tomiyasu had one or two days training and then got thrown in and I have to say, he looks brilliant. I was really impressed with him. He was defending, heading and galloping up the pitch. He even got in the box and nearly scored in the second half which was great to see.
“I thought Ben White and Gabriel looked solid as a partnership. Ben White swept up well and looked very composed on the ball which is good.
“I really like what I’m seeing from Lokonga as well. He looks like he’s going to be a real player.
“It wasn’t a great performance but considering the plight the club has been on there was a few definite positives to take.”
