Campbell in awe of 'immense' Ten Hag after Tottenham manager update from Athletic

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag would be a “great” appointment for Tottenham, according to Kevin Campbell.

However, the former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, stressed the importance of giving the 51-year-old time to settle into the Premier League if appointed.

Erik ten Hag has enjoyed a great amount of success since taking over at the Johan Cruyff Arena in 2017.

He has won two league titles, three cups and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2018-19 campaign.

The Athletic‘s Jack Pitt-Brooke claims the Dutch manager is the most likely to succeed Jose Mourinho in north London from a shortlist of four candidates.

It is said the other managers in the running are Roberto Martinez, Ralph Rangnick and Graham Potter.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Erik ten Hag would be a smart choice, Campbell said: “I think he would be a great choice given who the other candidates are.

“He is someone who plays with a different philosophy to Mourinho. He plays the right way and we know Spurs fans want to see entertaining football.

“Obviously he has a great record with an Ajax side that has done exceptionally well at developing youngsters. They play football in a certain way.

“Ajax were immense in that season where they got to Champions League semi-finals.

“I think he would be a really good shout all things considered.

“He doesn’t know the Premier League, that is the only problem. If he is appointed they need to give him time to make the adjustment.”
