Campbell issues ‘big’ Man City verdict after Nathan Ake injury update
Kevin Campbell has claimed “it is a big blow” for Man City defender Nathan Ake to suffer an injury at this time.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker said the “timing is bad” considering the 27-year-old is in “excellent” form and starting regularly.
Ake was forced off 21 minutes into City’s 3-3 draw at St. James’ Park on Sunday (21 August).
Speaking to club media (21 August), Pep Guardiola revealed the centre-back has suffered a groin injury and will not feature in a friendly against Barcelona on Wednesday.
The Netherlands international is the only centre-half to have started every game for City this season, including the FA Community Shield.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the injury development, Campbell said: “It is bad timing for him.
“He has played himself into the team with a string of top performances.
“When a manager like Guardiola leaves Ruben Dias out and you are playing you know you‘re doing something right.
“The injury is going to be a big blow for him. It is going to put him on a downer. It is nothing that he cannot overcome though.

“He was playing excellently. He has proven himself to be capable of starting regularly at City.
“Whatever the problem is he needs to get himself fit and take his chance again. He was doing really well.”
