Campbell issues ‘big’ West Ham verdict after Maxwel Cornet injury update

Kevin Campbell has claimed “it would be a big boost” for West Ham manager David Moyes if Maxwel Cornet is available to face Crystal Palace.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said Cornet, 26, would provide the Hammers with much needed pace in behind.

Cornet has been sidelined through injury since the 2-0 win over Wolves on 1 October.

According to Claret and Hugh (1 November), the winger has a chance of returning to the squad for this Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.

Fellow summer signing Nayef Aguerd is also said to be in contention for the visit of the Eagles.

When asked by Football Insider how significant Cornet’s return would be for the Irons, Campbell said: “It would be a big boost.

“West Ham are struggling to get in behind teams and score goals. Cornet is quick and direct. He could help them get behind.

“[Said] Benrahma is a dribbler whereas Cornet is a runner. He gets in behind and stretches teams. I think that is essential for West Ham at the moment.

“Cornet will not be starting this weekend but he is a handful off the bench. I’m sure David Moyes will be keen to get him involved as soon as possible.”

Cornet impressed in his nine appearances for the Hammers prior to injury.

He provided five assists in those outings.
