Campbell issues ‘desperate’ Liverpool verdict after Diogo Jota development
Kevin Campbell has claimed Liverpool cannot rely on Diogo Jota to solve their problems this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker said it would be “desperate” for Jurgen Klopp’s side to pin their hopes on the 25-year-old.
Jota returned for the Reds in a goalless draw against Everton on Saturday (3 September).
The Portugal international impressed after replacing Darwin Nunez on the 80 minute mark.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had been without Jota since July because of a recurrence of a hamstring injury.
When asked by Football Insider if Jota’s return to action for Liverpool timely given their start to the season, Campbell said: “Jota has been a revelation since he went to Liverpool.
“Whether he is playing or coming off the bench he has been excellent. He has fitted in tremendously well.
“But, getting him back and thinking he will solve all of their problems, is it a desperate move? I don’t think Liverpool can just rely on Jota. He will not change everything.
“I truly believe Liverpool need to get back to basics. What made them a juggernaut was the way they pressed and the energy they played with. They went after teams. I don’t see that at the moment though.

“Whether it is Jota, [Darwin] Nunez or [Roberto] Firmino, the team need to improve.
“Of course though, it is great to have Jota back.”
