Campbell issues ‘disgraceful’ West Ham verdict after FA decision on Declan Rice
Kevin Campbell has claimed West Ham captain Declan Rice should be able to publicly criticise officials for their decisions.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker said the call to disallow Maxwel Cornet’s goal at Chelsea on Saturday was “a disgrace.”
As shown on Sky Sports (4 September), the Hammers looked to have equalised late on at Stamford Bridge only for VAR to rule out the goal.
VAR official Jarred Gillett told referee Andy Madley to review an incident between Jarrod Bowen and Edouard Mendy in the build-up.
Irons boss David Moyes and midfielder Declan Rice condemned the decision in the aftermath of the 2-1 loss.
As reported by the Daily Mail (4 September), the Hammers duo will not be punished by the FA for their comments.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the comments made, Campbell said: “If decisions like that are made, players and managers are going to be angry.
“That is not even a contentious one, it is blatant. It was so bad.
“It is very difficult when you have an emotional player not to say anything. At the end of the day, if a player does something wrong he holds his hands up.
“If the referee or VAR get it wrong, why can’t the players say something? It is nonsense. It was a poor decision and it deserves to be called out as such.

“I am being kind calling it poor. Shambles is probably bang on. It is a disgrace.
“West Ham lost out on a good point in a big London derby. It should have been honours even. It is not right.”
