Campbell issues two-verdict on Chelsea bid for Romelu Lukaku replacement after source’s reveal

Kevin Campbell has claimed there is “no chance” of Cristiano Ronaldo flopping at Chelsea like Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker is adamant the 37-year-old would be a roaring success at Stamford Bridge.

Ronaldo has told Man United that he wishes to leave the club this summer.

The Portugal international wants to join a team in the Champions League.

A Chelsea source told Football Insider (7 July) that Chelsea are preparing a £14million bid for Ronaldo.

The striker has one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

When asked by Football Insider if Chelsea could live to regret signing another out and out number nine after Romelu Lukaku’s struggles, Campbell issued a two-word verdict: “No chance.

“Ronaldo could play for any team. He could play for any team in the Premier League.

“Listen, people questioned whether he would do it at Man United but if it wasn’t for him, United would have finished in the bottom half. That is me being kind.

“They struggled big time. Ronaldo put the team on his shoulders so many times. He single-handedly got them deep into the Champions League. Let’s be honest, they had no right to be there.

“He was phenomenal last season. Yes, it is not the same Ronaldo but he knows where the goal is. He can finish.

“Chelsea create chances. If you create chances for Ronaldo he will score. He is still an incredible goalscorer.

“I’m not surprised Chelsea are interested because they lack a prolific goalscorer. They wanted it to be Lukaku but it didn’t work out.”
