Campbell makes ‘big’ Arfield claim after Rangers contract reveal via Sky
Kevin Campbell has tipped Rangers to offer Scott Arfield a new contract “soon”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 33-year-old’s “bigger role” under Giovanni van Bronckorst suggests fresh terms are imminent.
Arfield’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of next May.
In an interview with Sky Sports (12 December), the midfielder revealed he is concentrating on football and not thinking about his contract situation.
He said he would leave any negotiations over a new deal to his representatives and the club.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Arfield’s future, Campbell said: “I think a new deal will be on the table soon.
“He went up there on a free and has done very well. It is time to put up now.
“He is playing regularly under Van Bronckhorst. It looks to me as if he’s been given more responsibility within the team. He has a bigger role.
“If he continues to do the business and is happy there, which he sounds to be, then I expect the club to offer him an extension.
“If they don’t, he is in the shop window for a team down in the Premier League. I like Arfield. I think he’s a very good player.”

Arfield has scored three goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season.
He has started four of the last five leagues games.
