Campbell points the finger at Darwin Nunez as Liverpool controversy analysed

Kevin Campbell has claimed Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was offside in the build-up to his goal against Arsenal on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gunners and Everton striker pointed the finger at the incident when assessing the decision to allow Arsenal’s opener at the Emirates.

According to the Liverpool Echo (11 October), Gabriel Martinelli’s opening goal against the Reds was unable to be accurately checked for offside due to a technical issue.

The VAR official was unable to draw virtual lines because of the problem.

Later in the first half, Nunez was standing in an offside position in the build-up to Liverpool’s opener.

Campbell was glad the two goals were allowed to stand.

“One thing I will say, if Arsenal got away with an offside at one end of the pitch Liverpool got away with one at the other,” he told Football Insider.

“Nunez was offside before Liverpool’s first goal. Nunez was offside when the ball was played.

“It was not given though. Nunez did brilliantly after to show the desire to get in the box.

“I liked that both goals were given. I do not mind it if a player is slightly offside and they play on.

“We should not complain about either goal. Both teams had the opportunity to defend after the offside. There was a lot of defending to do before the goals in both cases. That is football.

“I thought it was refreshing that both goals were given.”
