Campbell points the finger at Klopp after analysing Liverpool footage

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp deliberately argued with his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta to galvanise the crowd at Anfield on Saturday, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said Klopp was “clever” to use the incident as “a catalyst” in the Premier League clash.

As captured by Sky Sports, Klopp and Arteta exchanged heated words after Sadio Mane’s aerial challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Both managers were booked for the altercation.

Liverpool raised their performance level after the incident, with the home side convincing 4-0 winners in the end.

When asked by Football Insider if Liverpool’s improvement after the incident was coincidental, Campbell said: “It raised the heat in the stadium.

“It is always hot at Anfield but that moment lifted the crowd.

“Jurgen Klopp is clever. Let’s get it right, he used the incident as a catalyst.

“Mikel Arteta wasn’t having a go at Klopp. He was just making a gesture to the referee. Klopp is the one that started it. Arteta is obviously going to defend what he has seen.

“That gets the 12th man involved though. The team, as we have seen so many times, responds to the crowd.

“Klopp used that moment really well. It is not the first time he has done it.

“Liverpool upped their levels after that moment and the key thing is, Arsenal couldn’t match them.”
