Campbell verdict on Harry Maguire being ‘undermined’ as Man United footage emerges
Kevin Campbell is baffled by the criticism levelled at Man United captain Harry Maguire following a mistake in the tunnel prior to Sunday’s loss to Brighton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said “no attention should be paid” to the mix-up before the game.
As shown by Sky Sports (9 August), David de Gea pointed out to Maguire that the team were standing on the wrong side of the tunnel prior to their game against the Seagulls at Old Trafford.
Maguire made the two sides switch upon realising the mistake.
Erik ten Hag retained the centre-half as his captain for the 2022-23 campaign despite public scrutiny.
When asked by Football Insider if too much was being read into the viral clip, Campbell said: “At the end of the day, these things can happen.
“Who knows, maybe Brighton lined up on the other side first. We do not know that.
“When things aren’t going your way, people are going to use anything they can to undermine you.
“Alright, they were on the wrong side and they changed it. So what? That has no bearing on wins or loses the game. If United won that game, nobody would be saying anything.

“The fact of the matter is, things ain’t right at Manchester United. Maguire is a target because he is captain of the club.
“No attention should be paid to stuff like that. Some people want to use it as a weapon to beat him with… Not for me.”
