Campbell verdict on Liverpool ‘heartbreak’ after ‘big’ James Milner reveal

Kevin Campbell has claimed “the heartbreak” of losing out on the Premier League and Champions League will help Liverpool this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said Jurgen Klopp’s side’s togetherness “is vital” to their continued success.

Speaking to club media (27 July), James Milner revealed the squad have been socialising together during pre-season instead of being in their rooms on their own.

The experienced midfielder insisted it is “a big thing” for the team to be spending time together and said it epitomises the spirit within the dressing room.

The Reds have welcomed three new signings into the group this summer – Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to Milner’s interview comments, Campbell said: “I think it is vital.

“If you are a top team, you are together. You do not get to being a top team by being apart. You do it by being together.

“With Liverpool, you can see that they are all together. They have been in the trenches together. Most of the time they have come out winning.

“I know last season did not end as they would have liked but they already had two trophies in the bag. Was it a successful season? Yes.

“There was a bit of heartbreak but that will only serve them well in the long run.”
