'Flashbacks of van Dijk', 'Class' - Celtic fans rave about one player in loss v Hibernian

Celtic fans on social media have lavished praised on teenage defender Kristoffer Ajer for his performance on the match against Hibernian, which ended 2-1 to the Easter Road side.

The 19-year-old held the Hoops together at the back at times, and also burst forward to great effect in a game which was full of excitement.

One fan was so enthused about Ajer’s performance that he felt that his performance was reminiscent of former Hoops defender Virgil van Dijk, who is now at Liverpool.

Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to Ajer’s performance:

Ajer has become a mainstay of the Hoops side since December, when he replaced Jozo Simunovic in the first-team, and has made 29 appearances for the Bhoys this season.

He has already proved himself to be one of the best defenders at the club, and what has been even more impressive about his performances is that he has played with a variety of centre-back partners, at times playing with Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, Jack Hendry and the aforementioned Simunovic.

If Ajer keeps up his current level of form, he could be a major player for the Hoops for years to come, and looks set to become a regular in defence for the Bhoys for a long time to come.
