Caoimhin Kelleher ‘will leave Liverpool’ after being overlooked

Caoimhin Kelleher has been urged to quit Liverpool for the good of his career after the club signed Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that “Kelleher is the one that will leave” to make way for Liverpool’s new signing next summer.

The 24-year-old will move to Anfield after this season, which could open the door for a current Liverpool goalkeeper to leave the club.

Football Insider revealed that the Premier League giants will allow Kelleher to leave the club next summer, which he’s made clear that he wants to do.

Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to leave Liverpool to push his career

“Whether Alisson leaves or not, Kelleher is the one that will leave,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“He’s got every right to leave.

“He’s sat there, he’s waited for his opportunity, thinking that he would be the natural successor to Alisson, and that’s obviously not going to happen for him now.

“You don’t go and pay the money and sign a goalkeeper of Mamardashvili’s quality and put him on the bench behind Kelleher.

“He’s not going to want to play number two again or fight for the fight for a number one jersey. It’s time in his career now.

“He’s of an age where he wants to go and play and go and play permanently, so whether Alisson leaves or not, that’s one to watch.

“I don’t know whether Alisson will leave, maybe he’ll do another season in all honesty because Kelleher will be the one to go.

“Marmadashvili will come in next season, and he’ll play the same role as what Kelleher has done this season as in Cup games, bit-part.

“Alisson has done his hamstring now, we know he’s out for four weeks so Kelleher’s going to play a lot more football than he expected to this season.

“But for me, from Kelleher’s point of view, he needs to go and he needs to progress his career, and he needs to go and play regularly and be that number one.

“What he thought was going to happen at Liverpool, whether he was promised it or not, whether he was waiting in the wings to succeed Alisson, that’s clearly not going to happen.”
