‘Caomhin Kelleher set for Liverpool transfer wish as Mark Flekken nears Brentford exit’

Caomhin Kelleher is likely to finally get his much-desired exit from Liverpool, with Mark Flekken set to leave Brentford.

Alisson has been the longstanding number one at Anfield, limiting Kelleher’s game time to when the Brazilian is injured and cup competitions.

It is well known that the Irishman wanted to leave the Reds last year to go to a club where he could be the first-choice shot stopper and kickstart his career.

The Merseyside club blocked the move in the summer, but with Giorgi Mamardashvili joining Liverpool ahead of next season, Kelleher is finally free to depart.

Kelleher to replace Flekken

Kelleher has attracted the interest of Aston Villa and Leeds, as well as a number of other top flight clubs, and looks set to remain in the Premier League.

Brentford are also looking at the 26-year-old, amid rumours that Mark Flekken could be joining Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

According to The Athletic (30 May), Brentford have rejected a £7.6million bid for the Dutch keeper, but negotiations are ongoing and Flekken would likely leave if the figure reached £10m.

The Bees never sell key players until they have lined up someone to fill the void, and in this case, the West London side want Kelleher.

Liverpool’s number two is valued at around £20million, and is about to enter the final year of his contract.

Kelleher has spent his whole career at Liverpool, and since he made the step up from the academy, has been the second choice behind Alisson.

The Brazil international has had spells out of the side due to injury across the last two seasons, and Kelleher has stepped up to the plate.

He made 10 appearances in the 2023/24 campaign, keeping two clean sheets, and made the same number this year, doubling his clean sheet tally.

Despite making a couple of mistakes, notably against Newcastle at St James’ Park, Kelleher has proved he is more than ready for a consistent run of games in the Premier League.

Whether he makes the move to Brentford, or any other club in the top flight, the Irish international will surely grab his chance with both hands.

Harvey Elliott is also likely to leave Liverpool this summer, as the Red continue to freshen up their squad.
