Cardiff, Preston and Plymouth race to sign Brighton star Marc Leonard – sources

Brighton ace Marc Leonard has emerged as a target for Cardiff City, Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club are unlikely to stand in the 22-year-old midfielder’s way if they receive an offer in the region of £300,000.

The former Scotland U-21 international has had an impressive campaign on loan at Northampton Town, where he scooped up the club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards.

His eye-catching displays in League One have alerted the Championships clubs to his availability and they are now weighing up moves for him ahead of next season.

Brighton willing to offload Marc Leonard if asking price met

Leonard has been an ever-present in the Northampton team since joining on loan last summer after starting in every single league game.

The midfielder has registered five goals and six assists throughout the season, with four of those strikes coming since the turn of the year.

This has been the Scotsman’s second stint on loan with the Cobblers, having returned to the League One side following his exploits at Sixfields Stadium in the 2022/23 campaign.

He joined Brighton from Scottish side Hearts in 2018 but has seen his chances limited at the Amex, making just two appearances for the club during that time.

Leonard now looks set to potentially move on permanently this summer if one of the interested parties matches the Seagulls’ asking price.

With Cardiff, Preston and Plymouth all eyeing moves for him once the transfer window reopens, he may get the chance to prove himself in the Championship next season.
