Carl Starfelt facing Celtic axe as footage re-analysed – expert

Frank McAvennie has claimed Carl Starfelt will be replaced by Yuki Kobayashi in the starting lineup at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said although Starfelt is a “decent player” he is prone to mistakes.

As shown on Viaplay Sports (11 February), St Mirren were awarded a penalty in their Scottish Cup game against the Hoops after a tackle from Starfelt brought down Greg Kiltie in the box.

The Hoops went on to win the game 5-1 and progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Sweden international has started every league game for the Celts since the return of football following the winter break and they have not lost a match during that time.

On 23 November, Celtic confirmed the signing of Japanese centre-back Yuki Kobayashi on a five-year contract.

The defender has featured twice for the Hoops since he officially became a Hoops player on 1 January.

Ange Postecoglou has stuck with Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers as his preferred centre-back pairing for the majority of the season.

McAvennie backed Kobayashi to come into the team once he is up to scratch.

Ange has got Kobayashi, a left sided centre-half who never put a foot wrong when Starfelt was injured,” he told Football Insider.

Celtic

I think they just need to get him up to fitness to play in this Celtic team.

I think Starfelt is a decent player but he has got a mistake in him. I think that is fair to say and I think people would agree with me.
