Carlos Alcaraz to Everton: ‘Nervous’ post-deadline update as paperwork submitted
Everton have submitted a deal sheet for the deal to sign Carlos Alcaraz but now face a “nervous wait” to see if they will get their man, according to Anton Toloui.
A deal for the former Southampton midfielder looked to be all but done, but Flamengo still have not signed off on the transfer.
Alcaraz was seen as an exciting addition to new boss, David Moyes’ squad, given his ability to play anywhere across the midfield.
The deal is set to be a loan, with a mandatory purchase clause, but Everton are now in limbo waiting for confirmation.
Paul Joyce posted on X to say Everton were still working on the transfer, and had submitted a deal sheet to the Premier League to grant extra time to try and progress the transfer.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Toloui said (10.47pm): “All day we’ve been saying that Carlos Alcaraz will be an Everton player before the deadline but this one is going late.
“The final few minutes before the deadline the deal between Everton and his club in Brazil, Flamengo, still hasn’t been signed.
“There’s been a broad agreement for quite a while about a loan deal with an option to make it permanent. He’s passed his medical, he’s on Merseyside ready to go as soon as it’s signed, which means we are getting late right up to the deadline.
“That means it’s going to have to be signed off by the Premier League. Even if this deal is agreed it’s then going to have to be ratified by the Premier League, so they’re going to have to ask for an extension, Everton. They’ve done that before when they signed Armando Broja on deadline day back in September.
“This one may well take a little bit of a while after the deadline.”
Later at 11.19pm Toloui added: “Everton and Flamengo have been in discussions for three days and it is still rumbling on right now. The dreaded deal sheet has been submitted… Everton have submitted paperwork and asked for a delay… it’s gonna be a nervous wait for Everton fans.”
Everton left in limbo as Carlos Alcaraz deal goes down to the wire
Football Insider Verdict
The Toffees looked to have finally found an addition to the squad in the January transfer window, who could have a serious impact as they attempt to avoid relegation.
Alcaraz is a supremely talented midfielder, and the former Southampton man has impressed since becoming Flamengo’s record signing.
However, with the deal now being put in serious jeopardy, David Moyes may be left wishing his side had moved earlier in the window for other targets.
Jack Harrison has been disappointing on-loan from Leeds this season, but the Toffees prioritised getting the Alcaraz deal over the line ahead of replacing the English winger.
Everton showed an interest in West Brom’s Tom Fellows, but no deal was done for the right-winger.

It was also reported that Everton still had another foreign loan available to them, but it seems like the club have chosen not to do another deal at the end of the January window.
Another option available earlier in the window was former Chelsea and Fulham winger, Willian, but the free agent seems to be heading back to Craven Cottage instead.
In other news, Carney Chukwuemeka has responded to an offer from the Toffee’s.
