Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed the club is looking at Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell as a possible replacement for Alberto Moreno.
Jurgen Klopp is planning to re-enforce the Anfield defence after the departures of Kolo Toure, Jose Enrique and Martin Skrtel.
Carragher has stated that the left-back position is a role which needs to be filled, with 19-year-old Chilwell a possible successor.
“I think they (Liverpool) are looking at a young lad from Leicester – Ben Chilwell,” Carragher told the Liverpool Echo. “He is someone who could come in and challenge (Alberto) Moreno (at left-back), but it is certainly a position Liverpool need to fill.”
As reported by the Mirror, the youngster turned down a £19,000-a-week contract from the Premier League champions with the Reds looking at making a £3 million move for the England under-21 international.
The young defender was named under-21 player of the year last season and spent six months on loan at Huddersfield. Huddersfield’s manager is David Wagner, a close friend of Jurgen Klopp.
Arsenal are another Premier League club who have kept tabs on the England under-21 international who made three appearances for the Foxes last season.
In other Liverpool transfer news, Jurgen Klopp is set to hijack a move for a highly-rated Italian based defender with a price tag of £6.6 million.
