Top-flight club plot shock swoop for Celtic star after record deal is wrapped up - report
La Liga club Villarreal are planning to make a “shock” £15million move for Celtic star Moussa Dembele, according to a report.
The Daily Express reports that the side currently sixth in Spanish top-flight want to spend some of the £35million they received in January for selling striker Cedric Bakambu in a record deal for an African player to Chinese side Beijing Guoan
It is understood they have earmarked the Frenchman as his replacement.
The 21-year-old was the subject of a £12million from Premier League side Brighton in January, but as reported by the Scottish Sun it was rejected out-of-hand by the Hoops.
Dembele, who joined the Hoops for £500,000 from Fulham in 2016, has recently returned to form after a poor spell earlier in the season and was deservedly named man of the match in the Bhoys’ 4-0 Scottish Cup win over Rangers.

It is unlikely that the Hoops would consider selling such an important player of £15million, especially as they turned down three million less than that in January. That doesn’t mean that the Hoops wouldn’t sell Dembele at all though, and if a club came in with a bid of around £20million then the Hoops would have to seriously consider accepting that amount of money. It would allow Brendan Rodgers to make some big money purchases – provided that he was allowed to spend the money, of course. There’s no doubt that there will be plenty of speculation surrounding the player this summer, only time will tell if the stays in Glasgow or heads for pastures new.
