Medical passed: Celtic agree deal with English club for 19-year-old – report

By Harvey Byrne

Celtic youngster Josh Kerr is set for a move to newly promoted Brighton after passing a medical at the south coast side, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun have claimed that the Seagulls have agreed a deal with the Hoops for the 19-year-old right-back and that he is now expected to put pen to paper on a pre-contract.

The teenager has been part of the Glasgow giants’ team for four years after joining from Hamilton in July 2013.

Kerr has not made a senior appearance for Celtic and his contract is still set to expire at the Hoops this summer.

But, he has made six appearances for the Hoops in the UEFA Youth League this season, where he played in a centre-back position against the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City.

Brighton chiefs have clearly been impressed by the youngster’s displays and they are now looking to add to their team which will play in the Premier League next season.

Now, it is unlikely that Kerr will step into the Seagulls’ first team straightaway, but he could be one Celtic fans look out for in the future.

Football Insider verdict:

Kerr is not one of the standout stars in the Celtic team and this is just a case of one youngster moving from one club to another, which isn’t rare in football. It is unlikely that Kerr would have ever made it at the Hoops and he may be awarded more first team opportunities with Brighton in the future. The south coast club will be happy to survive next season, but if they do drop back down into England’s second tier, Kerr could become one of the regulars. Therefore, this move will suit all parties when it goes through.

In other Celtic transfer news, the Hoops are strong-odds favourites to sign £8million-rated striker.
