Celtic 21-year-old eyed by three Championship clubs - report

By Derek Smithson

Celtic defender Saidy Janko is being target by three clubs in the English Championship, according to a report.

HITC Sport claim that Sheffield Wednesday, Reading and Bristol City are interested in signing the 21-year-old.

It is understood that the youngster impressed during his loan spell at Barnsley last season and it has alerted the trio to his situation, who are all on the search for a new right-back.

The report details that Janko could be tempted to leave in the summer to help his chances of regular football

Janko struggled with injury during much of his season-long loan at Oakwell last campaign, but really showed his qualities at the back-end of the campaign.

The full-back played a role in Barnsley keeping their Championship status and has now returned to his parent club.

He is a highly rated youngster and has played for various Switzerland age levels right up the Under-21s.

Football Insider verdict:

Celtic already have Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa as senior right-back options in their squad, meaning it’s highly unlikely Janko could force his way into contention. It will be difficult for Rodgers to emulate his treble-winning first season in Scotland and that is the difficult task he now faces. Lustig managed to cement his position at full-back for the Bhoys and should be there once again next year. Janko would benefit hugely from another loan spell away in England and could be a future first team player if he gets a full season under his belt without injuries. Rodgers has shown his willingness to promote youth in his side and Janko could still have a role in the future.
