Celtic accelerate plan to sign A-list striker – sources

Celtic are set to accelerate their plans to sign an ‘A-list’ striker in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Scottish giants are waiting to “see what they can do” in the market this summer.

Brendan Rodgers wants to find a replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi, as the talisman left a hole in the squad when he departed during the January transfer window.

Celtic still have the money from his £10million sale to Rennes, and that’s something that the Hoops are aiming to reinvest back into the squad this summer.

Rodgers wants to push the team to be even more competitive in Europe next season, with Champions League status set to be attained again.

That is why he is hoping to have more firepower to move forward with in a bid to cause even more of a threat and enhance their odds of progressing deeper into the competition.

Celtic have identified one target

Celtic have already started focusing on making this happen as signing a striker is being seen as a priority situation for the Hoops.

Football Insider revealed that the Scottish giants have begun working on a deal to sign Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden in the summer.

He has been identified as an attainable target that could be brought to the club to provide Rodger with more options.

Brendan Rodgers could lose a top squad member to pay for it

Even though Celtic still have money from Furuhashi’s sale and finances gained via their European success this season, there are still concerns that they will have to sell a top player to fund their summer transfer business.

Football Insider revealed that Cameron Carter-Vickers is a player who could be set to leave this summer, which is a worrying situation for Rodgers.

Football Insider also reported in January that Celtic would be willing to sell the centre-back if their estimation is met, which remains the case this summer.
