Celtic accelerate summer signing spree – ‘they will be busy’

Celtic are expected to be active during the upcoming summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Scottish giant “will be busy” as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his squad.

Celtic have had a dominant season in the Scottish Premiership with the club 12 points ahead of Rangers, despite their Old Firm rivals beating them 3-2 during their most recent meeting.

However, Brendan Rodgers has made it publicly clear that he wants the club to challenge more in the latter stages of the Champions League which will require a stronger squad.

Kieran Tierney is set to return to his boyhood club in the summer, with Celtic set to make him the highest-paid player in the squad as the owners have showcased their intent.

Celtic fans have urged the club to financially back Rodgers this summer as they don’t want him to potentially become frustrated at the lack of support in terms of moving the squad forward.

Celtic are looking to provide Callum McGregor competition

Callum McGregor has been one of the most important members of Rodgers’ squad this season, but he is entering the latter stages of his career and the club are focusing on finding a long-term replacement for him.

Celtic struggled in midfield during the recent Old Firm derby, and that is why Rodgers wants to find someone who can provide competition and cover when McGregor isn’t around.

Football Insider revealed that Kalidou Sidibe is someone who the Hoops are considering to fill that role after he has impressed this season or Guingamp in Ligue 2.

Celtic must replace a former squad member

Celtic sold Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes in the January transfer window for £10million and the club didn’t replace him at that point.

However, Football Insider revealed that Celtic plan to sign an A-list striker to give Rodgers more options.

The club haven’t spent any of the money from Furuhashi’s sale yet either, so Rodgers will have that available to him.
