Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea attacker Charly Musonda on an 18-month loan, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that the Hoops have agreed a “major seven-figure deal” to sign Musonda, 22, on a temporary basis until the end of the 2018/19 season.
It is understood that the Scottish champions will also pay a hefty chunk of the Belgian attacking midfielder’s wages during his loan spell, a figure that HLN has previously reported to be £40,000-a-week.
The report adds that the former Real Betis loaneee, who has only ever made seven first-team appearances for Chelsea, could arrive in Glasgow on Monday to put the finishing touches to his move to Parkhead, however it is most likely that the deal will be done within the next 48 hours.
Brendan Rodgers is said to have made Musonda his top target for January and has held talks over the past few weeks in order to complete a move for the Belgium Under-21 international.
The Scottish Sun reports that there had been interest across Europe in the attacker, but Rodgers convinced him that a move north of the border was the best step for his career.
Football Insider verdict
Celtic are about to pull off the deal of the January transfer window. Musonda is a very talented player and is destined to eventually play first-team football in the Premier League and become a full international for Belgium. He is unlikely to have a future at Chelsea with their controversial youth system that sees young players signed from across Europe and then farmed out on loan, but it is something good that the Bhoys should latch on to. Patrick Roberts arrived at Parkhead in similar fashion a couple of years back before extending his stay by a further year in the summer. If Musonda makes anywhere near the impact Roberts did, then he will be a great signing.
