Celtic 20-year-old makes honest admission about summer Premier League switch

By Danny Wright

Celtic attacker Patrick Roberts is unsure what the future holds for him, but hinted his time at Celtic might be coming to and end, when his 18-month loan spell expires in the summer.

The 20-year-old has been in great form for the Bhoys since he sealed a temporary switch from Manchester City in 2016.

He is due to switch back to the Premier League when the season comes to a close but Roberts is fully focused on helping Celtic seal the treble against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final next month.

“I don’t know what’s happening next year,” said Roberts, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “Hopefully we can win the Scottish Cup and I’ll finish the season on a high.

“But after that, we’ll have to see. I’ll just take each game as it comes and when it comes to make a decision on my future, I’ll make that call then.

“Obviously it’s been brilliant being here at Celtic and I’ve enjoyed my time here. Everyone knows I love the club and love playing for them but who knows what can happen in football.

“But if I am to leave, a treble would be the perfect way to sign off. As a group we’ve been brilliant this season.”

The ex-Fulham attacker has made 54 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions since he joined them last January, scoring 13 goals.

Seven of his goals have come in the current campaign, in which Celtic have remained unbeaten in domestic competition.

Roberts was part of the side that triumphed over Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday to reach the Scottish Cup final.

The England Under-20 international has already won the Scottish League Cup and two Scottish Premiership titles in what has been a successful loan spell, but he still has the chance of adding one more piece of silverware to his list of honours.

Celtic and Rangers meet again at Ibrox on Saturday in what will be the sixth and final Old Firm derby of the season.

In other Celtic news, Roberts has hit out at Rangers’ Andy Halliday after his horror tackle on Sunday.
