Celtic backed to add two ‘big’ signings soon – expert

Celtic need to sign a centre-back and a holding midfielder this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie expects “two or three” signings in the coming weeks and wouldn’t be surprised if the club spend big.

The Celts have already signed winger Marco Tilio and central midfielder Odin Thiago Holm this summer but have lost star attacker Jota albeit in a £25million transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The Hoops are also set to bank around £21m from their participation in the group stages of the Champions League next season, before a ball is even kicked, as revealed by Football Insider earlier this year (10 May).

Brendan Rodgers’ current centre-back options include Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is still recovering from an injury, as well as Carl Starfelt, Yuki Kobayashi, Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales who spent last season on loan with Aberdeen.

McAvennie insisted the Hoops need more options across the field and don’t need to be careful with their spending.

I think there is going to be two or three signings that come in in the next couple of weeks and raise the eyebrows,” he told Football Insider.

There is money there and I am just waiting for it to happen. I am sure he is going to get a big centre-half in.

Celtic

I think he needs to bring in a holding midfielder. We are great going forward but when it breaks down there is no one there to hold it up. We have not had anyone since Scott Brown.

We have had good players but we have not had anyone to let the others go and play.

In other news, Celtic make move to sign 26-yr-old with same agent as Kieran Tierney.
