Celtic backed to agree buy-to-loan Dylan Reid deal after confirmed news - expert

Frank McAvennie has insisted Celtic should buy Dylan Reid and send him back on loan to St Mirren.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker said it would be more beneficial for Reid to play first team football.

According to the Daily Record (10 July), the Scottish champions have agreed a fee for the 17-year-old worth £125,000.

The midfielder has a year left on his contract with the Buddies.

Ange Postecoglou confirmed the Hoops’ interest but insisted Reid would be an option for the B team.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, McAvennie told Football Insider: “If he’s coming from the St Mirren first team, there’s no point in bringing him to Celtic and putting him in the youths, he’ll get more experience playing for St Mirren.

Buy him, by all means, but give him back to St Mirren, let him play first team football.

I don’t care how good a coach you are at youth level, when you’re playing first team football, you learn so much more than what you do at youth level because you’re playing against men.

This boy will be playing against men week in week out and he’ll get better. It’s alright having good youth players and a good youth team, but they’re not going to see the first team at the moment.

So buy him by all accounts if they like him, and send him back to St Mirren – it would help St Mirren out with the money and it would give Celtic a player for another season. So it would be a win-win for them.
