Celtic: Benjamin Nygren sends message to Lucas Bergvall after Sweden secure World Cup qualification

Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren has sent a message to Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall after Sweden secured qualification to this summer’s World Cup.

Bergvall came on as a second half substitute, as Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres netted an 88th minute winner against Poland to send Sweden to their first World Cup since 2018.

The 20-year-old’s season has been disrupted due to an injury sustained for Spurs against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in January.

It was a fourth consecutive appearance though for Bergvall, who new Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi will hoping to have at his disposal for his first match in charge against Sunderland.

Nygren, who picked up an assist in the victory against Poland, will return to Celtic where they face Dundee next in their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.

After the match, Bergvall was quick to take to social media to post a celebratory message which read “we are going to the World Cup,” followed by a succession of yellow and blue love hearts.

Nygren was quick to respond to Bergvall by saying, “Yes brother,” followed by two red love hearts.

Sweden will begin their World Cup campaign against Tunisia on June 15th, before facing European rivals the Netherlands, and rounding off the group stage against Japan.

Nygren could join Bergvall in the Premier League

Whilst currently playing north of the border at Celtic, Nygren could move south and join Bergvall in the Premier League next season.

The 24-year-old, in his first campaign in Glasgow, is Celtic’s top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 15 goals in 31 games.

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic do not plan to let Nygren depart in the summer transfer window, but they’re aware of interest from Premier League clubs.

Celtic believe they can keep Nygren at the club, even if they miss out on European football next season, with the Hoops currently five points behind league leaders Hearts in the table.
