Celtic board hailed for pulling off ‘brilliant’ Edouard sale as source reveals all

Kevin Phillips claims Celtic completed brilliant business as they sold Odsonne Edouard to Crystal Palace on deadline day.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the late arrivals and exits at Parkhead.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club will receive an initial £15million for Edouard rising to £20million with add-ons.

The 23-year-old striker signed for Crystal Palace on deadline day, ending months of speculation on his future at Parkhead.

Ange Postecoglou had continued to play the forward even though his future was far from certain with less than a year left on his deal.

The Hoops secured the signing of VVV Venlo forward Georgios Giakoumakis on deadline day ahead of Edouard’s arrival.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota also joined on the final day of the window from Tottenham and Benfica respectively.

Phillips insists Edouard’s departure allowed Celtic to complete their late flurry of signings.

“Brilliant business,” Phillips told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“Financially it’s a great deal. From Palace’s point of view it’s not huge money to get a player like that.

“From the Celtic point of view, it’s given then the licence to spend a bit more when bringing those other players into the club.

“It’s a good deal all round.”

Celtic

Edouard’s contract at Celtic was due to expire next summer and he was linked with several moves during the summer.

The striker scored 86 goals in 179 games at the Parkhead club after joining in 2017.
