Celtic boardroom stance on signing Julian Araujo predicted after Martin O’Neill update
Julian Araujo’s permanent move to Celtic will depend on who the Glasgow club appoint as their next manager.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, with Araujo having enjoyed his loan spell with the Scottish Premiership champions.
Araujo joined on loan from Bournemouth in January and has quickly become a fan favourite at Celtic Park, and nailed down a position in Martin O’Neill’s side.
Signed under Wilfried Nancy in January, the defender faces another change in manager at the club at the end of the season if he was to remain in Glasgow.
Celtic’s squad is set for a summer rebuild following a poor season of results on the pitch, so the future of Araujo is still not certain.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes it is “too early to make a decision” on whether Araujo will stay at Celtic.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the 24-year-old’s future also lies with whether the Celtic board want to get the chequebook out in the summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he’s enjoyed it. I think he’d like to come up if they can find a plan.
“The Celtic board, as we know, love that chequebook and they don’t like opening it. And again, a lot will depend on the new manager situation at Celtic.
“Now, Martin O’Neill has said he ain’t going to go before the end of the season, and he’s not going to stay on for another season. So you’ve really got to think about is, is Araujo the right sort of player for the next manager?
“And really it’s a bit too early to make this decision. And so that’s got to be jointly done with whoever’s going to come in.”
