'Unfortunate' - Rodgers in bombshell revelation over future of crocked Celtic star
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he doesn’t know that Leigh Griffiths will return from his latest injury setback.
The Hoops striker had just returned to form with two goals in two games before suffering a calf injury against Hibernian.
It is the second such injury that the 27-year-old has suffered this season, and the Hoops manager feels sorry for the Scotland international after revealing the bombshell over his future.
“He is still out but he is responding to treatment, I am not 100% sure when he will be back” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“It is unfortunate. He got into a good little rhythm there and then broke down. It was unfortunate bit you seen his frustration the day it happened and there is no-one more frustrated than him.”
It has been a stop-season for Griffiths, who has struggled both with injury and a loss of form. He has managed to score 12 goals so far this season, including in victories against Anderlecht and Rangers, but it has not been the happiest of seasons so far for the forward.
The Hoops have tried to solve the goalscoring problems they have had recently by going to a two-man strike partnership of Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard.
The move worked a treat in the recent match against Hearts, with both players scoring in a 3-1 victory.
However, the decision to play Dembele on his own against Kilmarnock last week backfired, as the Hoops went down to a deserved 1-0 defeat.
It seems likely that both strikers will once again play in the upcoming Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle on Saturday.
