Celtic braced for Matt O’Riley bids after offer reveal – sources

Celtic are expecting to receive summer bids for Matt O’Riley after he won all three of their Player of the Year awards, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hoops rejected a bid from Atletico Madrid for the Denmark international in January and he is now wanted by Premier League clubs and top European sides heading into the upcoming transfer window.

O’Riley has been outstanding for Celtic this season as they close in on the Scottish Premiership title, with the midfielder putting in another stellar performance in their 2-1 Old Firm victory over Rangers on 11 May.

It’s the first time in the Glasgow club’s history one player has been named Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year at the end-of-season awards.

The 23-year-old’s contract is set to run until 2027.

Matt O’Riley could leave Celtic this summer

It’s been O’Riley’s best season at Celtic since arriving from MK Dons for £1.5million in January 2022.

The London-born midfielder has now registered 16 goals and 17 assists in all competitions this campaign after cementing his place as one of the first names on the team sheet for Brendan Rodgers.

O’Riley scored the first goal in the Hoops’ latest victory over Rangers, helping his side go within a point of retaining the Scottish Premiership title.

Celtic will be desperate to fight off any interest in their prized asset this summer after he’s emerged as one of the best players in Scotland this season.

Football Insider previously revealed the club would only entertain offers of at least £20million to consider sanctioning an exit for O’Riley once the transfer window reopens.
