Finance guru salutes Celtic after ‘absolutely vital’ Nicholson reveal

It is “absolutely vital” the Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson and manager Ange Postecoglou are operating in tandem behind the scenes.

So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the duo’s apparently strong working relationship.

The Hoops officially unveiled the long-awaited signings of J1 League trio Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi last Friday (31 December).

As quoted by the Daily Record last Tuesday (28 December), Postecoglou said Nicholson had been the “driving force” behind the deals.

Nicholson was named chief executive on a permanent basis last month (23 December) after acting as caretaker following Dominic McKay’s short reign.

Plumley explains why synergy between the CEO and manager is essential.

“It’s absolutely vital,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Your strategic approach has got to come from the top down and everybody has to be pulling in the same direction. That is when it works.

“I have seen some similar research regarding the sporting director role and a lot of the quotes in there were along the same lines.

“The clubs that are getting that right are those that align it all the way through.

“Honesty and transparency are key across the board, from the manager to the CEO and beyond. It has to work this way.”
