Celtic could be about to re-sign Victor Wanyama after confirmed news - pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Celtic might look to bring Victor Wanyama back to Parkhead.

But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back cited James McCarthy as a reason against bringing back players that are coming to the end of their careers.

Wanyama’s current contract at MLS side CF Montreal expires next month following the conclusion of their season.

The Hoops tried to re-sign the 31-year-old before he joined the MLS club in 2020, but Tottenham were unwilling to let him go.

As quoted by the GlasgowTimes last month (7 October), the former Spurs and Southampton man said he would “love” to play for the Celts again and “give it a last go”.

Wanyama admitted the Green and Whites approached him about a loan move but said he didn’t “follow it up”.

When asked if the midfielder could be an option for Ange Postecoglou’s side, Hutton told Football Insider:They might look at it.

“I am not so sure it would be top of the list. He has obviously got that history of being at the club. He has left and played at a high level.

But at 31, they tried that with McCarthy, has that really worked? I am not so sure. There is obviously a top player within there but I think it really depends on who they have in their sights.

They play with very high energy, high aggression, non-stop. Can he do that week in week out? I am not so sure.
