‘Celtic could follow Man City and Brighton’ after landing £40m

Celtic have enjoyed historic success in the Champions League this season, bringing huge riches to Parkhead to extend their advantage over rivals Rangers.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have banked almost £40million in prize money already this term, adding to the £77.2million of in cash reserves at Parkhead.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has brought forward an innovative suggestion for Celtic chiefs as they look to spend that money to cement their dominance in Scotland.

Celtic tipped to copy successful English model after cash influx

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested Celtic could look to establish a network of linked clubs worldwide with new investment.

English clubs like Man City, Brighton and Crystal Palace have taken advantage of multi-club ownership to good effect in recent years.

Wyness insisted Celtic’s worldwide support would lend itself well to a multi-club model.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Celtic will do enough to keep the upper hand in Scottish football, but won’t go overboard.

“There has to be some development of Celtic Park, I think. But it’s going to be difficult to keep that money in the bank when fans want to see progress on the pitch.

“Maybe they could go down the multi-club route. It would be very interesting, and it would make a lot of sense.

“They could get a multi-club pyramid in place because Celtic are a very big club and well-supported globally.

“That could be where they are thinking of investing some money.”

Brendan Rodgers ‘not happy’ with Celtic’s January window

Despite their success in Europe, Celtic fans endured a modest January transfer window which saw iconic striker Kyogo Furuhashi leave for France without a direct replacement.

Wyness previously told Football Insider (5 February) that Rodgers will already be putting forward his summer transfer plan and “won’t be happy” with activity in January.

The Hoops sit top of the Scottish Premiership by 13 points and will play a two-leg knockout tie against Bayern Munich in the Champions League this month.
