Celtic could open up ‘huge’ gap over Rangers this summer – Kieran Maguire
Celtic could open up a significant financial gap to rivals Rangers if they are the only Scottish team competing in the 2024-25 Champions League.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Parkhead side already have the advantage of having a bigger stadium and more lucrative sponsorship deals.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have qualified for the 24-25 Champions League after beating Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title last season.
Rangers will now have to go through the qualifying play-off rounds this summer if they are to join the prestigious European tournament.
The Champions League is undergoing a format change next season to the Swiss-style model, which Uefa predicts will increase the prize money on offer to clubs.
“Celtic could grow a huge financial gap if they are the only Scottish side in the Champions League,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
Celtic could dominate Rangers financially this summer
“They have the benefit of a bigger stadium, more hospitality suites and more beneficial commercial deals.
“It does require caution when comparing the finances of the Scottish sides because Celtic show their shirt sales on a gross basis and Rangers show theirs on a commission basis.

“But in terms of profitability, they have been ahead of Rangers.
“If Rangers don’t qualify for the Champions League then Celtic will have an opportunity to grow their squad which is already the most expensive in Scotland.“
