Celtic could sign the next Scott Brown amid £13m news – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Celtic could sign a defensive midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said the Hoops have been “a little bit short” in that position since Scott Brown’s departure.

Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Dundee United 9-0 on Sunday (28 August).

The result marked their biggest away win in the club’s history.

On Thursday (25 August), the Bhoys confirmed the signing of Sead Haksabanovic from Rubin Kazan.

The forward put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Scottish champions.

The Montenegro international becomes Ange Postecoglou’s seventh signing of the summer.

The Parkhead club also confirmed (23 August) the departure of Christopher Jullien.

The centre-back has joined Montepellier on a permanent deal.

The Glasgow club secured their place in the Champions League group stages by winning the Scottish Premiership last season.

On 4 May, the Daily Record reported that Celtic will earn £13.2million by being in the group stage of the prestigious European Competition.

Glasgow rivals Rangers join the Hoops in the group stages after they beat PSV Eindhoven in the playoff round.

When asked if Postecoglou’s side will use the influx of cash to strengthen the side before deadline day, Hutton told Football Insider: “Celtic have just signed another winger, I think they are heavily loaded in that area.

Celtic

Possibly a defensive midfielder, I still believe they could be a little bit short since Scott Brown left. Have they really replaced him?

Even though I think their midfield is very strong. I think at this moment in time Ange is probably the happier of the two managers in Glasgow.

In other news, a pundit has told Celtic to accept “£3m” Albian Ajeti bid after approach made.
