Celtic duo expected to leave by 31st August – expert
Celtic are set to cash in on both Mikey Johnston and Gustaf Lagerbielke before the transfer window closes on 30 August.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted that neither player has a part to play in Brendan Rodgers’ squad and will be pushed out of the door at Parkhead before the end of the window.
He went on to explain that there are a number of players at the club who should be looking to move on as they are on the fringes of the first-team squad.
Johnston was the focus on McAvennie’s claims, as he insisted the winger has to move on for the good of his career after spending seven years at Parkhead.
However, it appears the club will be looking to move on multiple players before 31st August to clear space in their squad.
Celtic to cash in on Mikey Johnston before the transfer deadline
Johnston spent the second half of last season at West Brom where he scored seven goals and provided two assists in 20 appearances.
However, the club have not moved to sign him permanently this summer, and he remained an unused substitute in their opening-day clash with Kilmarnock.
McAvennie has now insisted he will need to look for a move away from Celtic after falling down the pecking order, with multiple exits expected from Parkhead.
“I think Lagerbielke is going to leave,” he told Football Insider.
“There are a couple of players I expect to leave. Mikey Johnstone needs to go on loan or be sold because he’s not getting near the first team.
“He’s been here seven years, he’s a wonderful talent but West Brom didn’t want to buy him.
“The more the team has bulked up, he’s been pushed down the pecking order, so I think for his own peace of mind he needs to go.

“There are a few players that are on the cusp of the squad and won’t even be back-ups.
“They’re the ones that have got to go if Celtic can cash in on them before the transfer window closes in a couple of weeks.”
