Celtic duo sweep all aside at honour ceremony, win five gongs between them

The Celtic duo of Scott Brown and Kiernan Tierney have won a host of awards at the club’s official player of the year ceremony.

The Hoops confirmed that Brown was voted player of the year by both his team-mates and the Hoops fans, while he was also handed a special recognition award – with all of the awards confirmed via the club’s official Twitter account.

Tierney was awarded the young player of the year trophy, and also picking up an honour for the goal of the season, which was named as his long-range strike against Kilmarnock – meaning the defender and Brown picked up five of the awards between them.

The other awards on the night went to Scott Sinclair for top scorer – which might strike some as a bit odd seeing as how the season is yet to finish – and Anthony Ralston, currently on-loan at Dundee United, who won the Hoops academy player of the year award.

Football Insider verdict

Nobody can be surprised that Brown and Tierney have swept all aside at the player of the year ceremony, as they have probably been two of the Bhoys’ three best players this season, alongside James Forrest, who has been a bit off-form in the last few weeks. Brown and Tierney have shown remarkable levels of consistency this season though, and their ability to turn in excellent performances week in, week out, has helped to drag a Hoops team which hasn’t been firing on all cylinders to the brink on a second successive domestic treble. For that alone both players have earned the recognition that they deserve.
