Celtic Exclusive: Rodgers’ response to Premier League interest in Daizen Maeda revealed

Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep his Celtic squad together this summer with Daizen Maeda attracting Premier League interest, sources have told Football Insider.

Promoted Leeds United and West Ham are among the sides linked with a potential swoop for the 27-year-old Japan international.

Celtic have a recent history of completing big summer sales with Jota and Matt O’Riley sealing exits in back-to-back years.

However, Rodgers is keen to avoid any more departures after Kyogo Furuhashi left Parkhead to join Rennes in the January transfer window.

Leeds and West Ham linked with Maeda

Football Insider revealed in April that he wants “huge” transfer backing this summer with his long-term Celtic future uncertain.

Rodgers is plotting another push in Europe next term after Celtic‘s success in the Champions League this season.

His contract is only set to run until May 2026 and the ex-Leicester boss is keen for his demands to be met if he is to pen an extension.

Maeda has hit 33 goals and notched 12 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions this term.

He is under contract until May 2027 after joining Celtic from Yokohama F. Marinos in 2022.

Mathias Kvistgaarden to Celtic update

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (5 May) that Celtic will find it hard to sign Mathias Kvistgaarden this summer if Eintracht Frankfurt enter the race.

Brondby star Kvistgaarden is a long term target for Celtic, who weighed up moves for the striker last summer and in January.

It is believed Frankfurt’s interest in the Denmark Under-21 international will make a deal more difficult for the Hoops after qualifying directly for the Champions League with a top four finish.
