Celtic expected 4-2-3-1 v Motherwell: Nine internationals return to start

By Will Butcher

Celtic have welcomed back their international stars as Brendan Rodgers prepares to name nine of them in an unchanged side to face Motherwell on Saturday.

Along with the Hoops’ Scottish stars, Moussa Dembele, Mikael Lustig, Erik Sviatchenko, Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton have all been away on international duty.

Tiredness is unlikely to be an issue for Rodgers though, as he names the same side that beat Dundee 1-0 prior to the international break.

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon, youngster Kieran Tierney, captain Scott Brown and winger James Forrest all return from Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad after disappointing World Cup qualifying results against Lithuania and Slovakia.

Josip Simunovic and Scott Sinclair make up the rest of the expected starting eleven, after being overlooked by Croatia and England during the international break.

Dembele is set to continue as Celtic’s attacking spearhead, keeping 40-goal hitman Leigh Griffiths on the bench. The former Fulham striker twice for France Under-21’s against Georgia and Northern Ireland during the break.

Commanding right back Lustig is also fresh from scoring for his country, as they edged past European minnows Luxembourg 1-0 and he is likely to keep Costa Rica star Cristian Gamboa on the bench.

A win for the Hoops will see them continue their impressive unbeaten run at the top of the Scottish Premiership, which has seen them triumph six times in seven league games.

In other Celtic team news, Rogic has returned to training despite arriving late from international duty.
