Celtic expected to sell star for 'big money' as January signed lined up - pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Celtic will need to do business in the January transfer window to prepare for any exits.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said the Hoops will need to be prepared for other teams “sniffing about” their talented players in upcoming transfer windows.

On 25 October, sources told this site that Celtic have set aside cash to sign a new central midfielder in January.

Ange Postecoglou has made it clear to Parkhead chiefs that he wants to strengthen the side in the winter window.

According to the Daily Mail, reported in the Daily Record (18 October), Leicester City have stepped up their interest in Matt O’Riley and sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old last month.

On 30 October, the Daily Mail reported that the Hoops are said to be preparing for a swarm of interest in Josip Juranovic after the World Cup.

Hutton insisted Celtic will be preparing for potential exits in the winter window.

I think you always have to [prepare], I think that is part of football nowadays,” he told Football Insider.

You see it over the years, players coming in and developing really well within the club and then they move on for big money. I think that is also a remit for Rangers and Celtic at this moment in time.

If they can unearth a gem, bring them on and sell them on for good profit. That is how these clubs work at this moment in time. I think you always have to have an eye in case these things happen.

At this moment in time Celtic have some standout players that I am sure other teams will be sniffing about.
