Celtic expert ‘absolutely convinced’ Brendan Rodgers will make ‘big’ January signings

Celtic will “absolutely” allow Brendan Rodgers to make “big” signings in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie detailed four positions – centre-back, left-back, goalkeeper and holding midfielder – that he wants addressed in the Celtic squad.

The club were astute in the transfer window and reportedly made a profit after their summer business, helped massively by the £25million sale of Jota to Al-Ittihad.

However, fans have questioned if the Hoops will be active this winter considering the lost revenue following their elimination from Europe, while Rodgers admitted last month that recruitment will be needed.

McAvennie is adamant that the club will be sniffing out “quality talent” in the upcoming window as the squad depth is lacking.

“Rodgers will bring players in in January,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m absolutely convinced of it. Big players too, I think he will bring in quality talent even if it’s just two or three.

“I definitely think we need a centre-back, a left-back, a goalkeeper, a holding midfielder – that’s the four positions that I would like to see brought in.

“The defenders Gustav Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki just aren’t doing it in training so they’re not even going to get a game.

“I like Liam Scales but I would like to see him play at left-back and then bring a new centre-half in.”
