Celtic expert drops ‘big’ Joe Hart claim after confirmed news
Frank McAvennie has insisted Joe Hart has been a “big part” of the success at Celtic this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Hart could improve on his ability on the ball but acknowledged that he has turned up in some big moments in recent games.
On Tuesday (9 May), PFA Scotland announced their team of the year as voted for by the players, with seven of Ange Postecoglou’s men making the cut.
Hart was joined by teammates Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Greg Taylor, Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Celts stopper also has the most clean sheets this season with 15 in 34 games, Aberdeen’s Kelle Roos is second with 11 clean sheets in 27 appearances.
McAvennie wasn’t surprised by Hart’s inclusion in the TOTY.
“I think he has had a good season,” he told Football Insider.
“When you do not notice the goalkeeper, that is when you know they are really good, when they are not doing anything and all of a sudden make a great save. That is what he has been doing for a while.
“I do not know why they don’t teach him to play football because he could be better with the ball at his feet and stop giving everyone heart attacks.
“In the big games against Rangers he has made some big saves. The team have not been themselves recently, the defence have had to dig in and Joe has been a big part of that so that is why he will be in there.“
