Celtic expert drops ‘big’ Kyogo Furuhashi claim after confirmed news
Frank McAvennie is delighted Celtic stars Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate have finally be called up to the Japan squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker has been impressed by how the pair have handled being left out of previous international fixtures.
On 26 May Hajime Moriyasu confirmed his Japan squad for their upcoming Kirin Challenge Cup games against El Salvador and Peru that included Hatate, Kyogo and regular international feature Reo Hatate.
After his World Cup snub Kyogo spoke to Japanese outlet The Mainichi about his disappointment of missing out on the tournament.
The striker said he was “extremely disappointed and shocked” to be left out of Moriyasu’s World Cup squad but insisted he would “move forward”.
McAvennie was pleased the pairs’ persistence paid off.
“The players did not complain when they were not called up before,” he told Football Insider.
“It was made into a big thing that they had not been picked but the two of them just went about their business.
“The players do not ask what the problem is they ask how to fix it and I think that is a great way to lead your life. Instead of looking to blame the manager or your coaching staff they just let it be and it has worked out for them.

“The two of them are playing well and have now got their call up.
“The manager would have been under so much pressure not to pick them. I am delighted for the two of them because I know how much an international cap means.“
