Celtic expert drops ‘massive’ confession after Rangers calamity
Celtic “have to” win the double this season after Rangers’ major slump in form.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie was adamant that Brendan Rodgers’ side should be filled with confidence heading into their Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon (20 April).
The Hoops gained a three-point lead at the top of the table after Philippe Clement’s side secured just two points in their last three games – most recently their 0-0 draw against Dundee on Wednesday night (17 April).
Rangers’ rollercoaster season looks to be on the decline, but they have the chance to make it to their second cup final this season if they beat Hearts at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon (21 April).
Celtic need domestic double after Rangers woes – McAvennie
However, McAvennie noted that there would be “something wrong” with the Celtic squad if they did not get a boost from their rivals’ dip in form and claimed anything short of a double would be a failure.
“Celtic should feel really confident heading into the semi-final against Aberdeen,” he told Football Insider.
“If they don’t get a boost after Rangers’ recent results, then there’s something wrong with them.
“All of a sudden, it’s all back in Celtic’s hands and they can’t let slip – they have to get the double.

“I would be very surprised if they don’t to be honest.
“It would be a massive boost.”
