Celtic expert fumes at what stars have done to Kyogo Furuhashi – ‘This shouldn’t happen’

Kyogo Furuhashi’s Celtic teammates are consistently failing to capitalise on his “excellent” movement.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie hailed Kyogo as the “best striker in Scotland”, but was furious that players have not made the most of his quality.

The 29-year-old has struggled for form in recent weeks having scored just one goal in his last eight league outings before Celtic’s 3-1 win against St Johnstone on Saturday (16 March).

However, Kyogo bagged a goal and an assist against the Saints on his return to the line-up after two games starting on the bench.

McAvennie feels that the striker must now start every game going forward, but urged those around him to continue playing to his strengths as they did against St Johnstone.

“Kyogo should definitely be playing every game now,” he told Football Insider.

“For me, he’s the best striker at Celtic and the best striker in Scotland.

“I keep moaning about Matt O’Riley staying up top and Paulo Bernardo – you can’t have midfielders playing with their back to goal because it gets too congested.

“This shouldn’t happen.

“But at the weekend [against St Johnstone] it didn’t happen and it was great.

“Kyogo’s movement has always been excellent.

“But as a striker myself, I’m thinking that his movement is not being found by his teammates enough.”
